Developing courses of mental arithmetic for children 5 – 10 years from the Center of Business Analytics of Sumy State University.
Mental arithmetic is a unique course in the development of computing skills, which is only a means for the comprehensive development of the child. It is difficult to overestimate the role of verbal arithmetic for children, because through acquaintance with arithmetic operations the child prepares for the needs of everyday life and learning new disciplines, but also for the formation of logical and algorithmic thinking.
From an early age there is a need to develop children’s ability to analyze, compare, concretize and abstract, and verbal arithmetic will be a great helper in this, not to mention that preschool training will never be superfluous for toddlers.
Oral arithmetic is taught on Japanese calculators, which in the future children will only be able to imagine and perform actions only orally. Differentiated approach to learning – groups will be divided by age – junior, middle and senior groups. The personality-oriented approach consists in the small number of groups – small groups in volume (up to 8 children) will allow to pay enough attention to everyone during the lesson. We even have an interesting break between classes! Our goal is not just to teach children to calculate orally, but to show that learning can be exciting, so during breaks we will offer a variety of games and experiments. Classes will be held once a week, but paired (2 to 45 minutes + 15 minutes break), but it is mandatory to perform oral exercises at home every day for at least 15 minutes.
