The book “A Career Without Drama and Trauma: 10 Insights for Success

Building a career is not only about acquiring professional skills and experience, but also about the ability to manage your own professional path. The authors of the book ‘A Career Without Drama and Trauma’ (Anna Mazur and Nastya Pasenko) shared valuable advice that will help students and graduates become the ‘architects’ of their own success.

⚙️ Your profession is not a ‘sentence’

1. Your calling is not just a point on the map. It is, first and foremost, your values and mission. You may be an analyst, marketer or developer, but your true calling may be, for example, to ‘structure chaos’ or ‘explain the complex’. Don’t limit yourself to one position.

2. Choose a lifestyle, not a job title. Working as an analyst at a giant corporation and at a flexible start-up are two different worlds. Look at the daily processes, not the flashy ‘Junior Data Scientist’ title.

3. Flexibility of trajectories. A modern career can be anything: vertical, horizontal, or even ‘slash’ (e.g., analyst/teacher/volunteer).

💡 Be more than an algorithm

4. Don’t work like a robot. There will be more robots in the future, so your superpowers are passion, creativity, and genuine curiosity about your work.

5. Proactivity = promotion. Responsibility is not given from above — it is taken independently. To get a new position, first demonstrate that you are ready to perform more complex tasks.

6. Lifelong learning. For a professional, learning is a must. The modern world is changing extremely quickly, so the ability to learn is your main competitive advantage.

🧘 Psychological resilience and control

7. Reflection is your internal feedback. Without understanding who you are and what you want, you become a ‘hostage to circumstances’ where others make decisions for you.

8. The 80/20 rule of satisfaction. Even the best job does not bring 100% happiness. If 80% of your tasks drive you, and 20% are routine, you are in the right place.

9. Motivation is your fuel. Don’t expect your manager or HR to ‘fill up’ your car. Only you are responsible for ensuring that your tank always has the energy to move forward.

10. You are the main mechanism. Your career does not depend on the university, the government or your boss. Only you know how to build it. Take responsibility, and you will have a real chance to change your life.
