The Ukrainian gaming industry continues to surprise with its unconventional approaches to game design . The project ” Kami : Parade” was recently released. of Senses ” – a game that started as a small concept for a jam and turned into a deep exploration of human behavior and system interactions.
🧠 ” Kami ” is not just a visual novel. The developers have integrated a number of mechanics into the game that make the process of passing a real challenge for the analytical mind:
- Stress system : a unique mechanic where the protagonist’s stress level affects the available choices$
- Barter and reputation economy: The game lacks a classic currency, instead featuring a system of exchanging consumables (which are also needed for survival) and dynamic reputation. The cost of services and the attitude of characters change depending on your previous actions, creating a living model of market relations;
- A world that doesn’t wait for the player: An object-oriented approach to storytelling means that characters have their own goals and move towards them regardless of whether you interact with them or not.
🎨 The game was inspired by genres such as Metroidvania and Survival Horror , which adds to its unpredictability. It is worth noting the authentic Ukrainian soundtrack by the bands Violet Raymoor and “Octavian Augustus”, which highlights the dark and mysterious lore of the universe.
🚀 The 2.5-year project journey demonstrates the importance of iterative development: from a two-week prototype to Ukrainian Visual Novel Jam #3 to a full-fledged product with a complex election architecture and “New Game+”.
