For the first time the student of Sumy State University has taken part in the second round of the Ukrainian student competition in the specialty “Statistics“, which was held at the National Academy of Statistics, Accounting and Auditing of State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
26-28 April 2017 the National Academy of Statistics, Accounting and Auditing of State Statistics Service of Ukraine held the second round of Ukrainian Student Competition in the specialty “Statistics“. 25 students from 10 Ukrainian universities (9 of them offer the professional studies in Statistics) the participants this year. Olha Kremen, Associate Professor, Department of Economic Cybernetics and Anastasia Skovronska, bachelor student, were representatives of Sumy State University.
The jury consisted of leading scientific and teaching staff from research institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and universities. Olha Kremen, Associate Professor, Department of Economic Cybernetics of Sumy State University, took part in the Appeals Committee of Competition.
Students presented noncompetitive home task during the first day. It was report on theme “All about Statistics and Statistics about everything.” Team of Sumy State university was awarded by certificate “For the will to win.”
During the second day contest participants must have done a crossword devoted to statistical terminology and three assignments including statistical hypotheses, analysis on birthrate and chain substitution method.
The meeting with Vilenchuk Raisa, the Chief of the Department of Statistics in Kiev, was organized. Madam Vilenchuk outlined the current trends in government statistics in Ukraine and answered students’ questions.
According to the results of the Student Competition in the specialty “Statistics” Kyiv National University named T. Shevchenko was the winner, National Academy of Statistics, Accounting and Auditing was the second and finally Lviv National University named I. Franko was the third.
Five participants received diplomas in the nominations “The originality of the solution”, “By thinking outside the box”, “A good use of statistical methodology”, “Creative approach”, “Knowledge of statistical methodology”. Anastasia Skovronska won the last-mentioned nomination.
International House Kyi also congratulated the participants and presented them gift certificates for intensive speaking course and souvenirs.
It is useful to note that taking part in the competition will continue improving teaching Statistics, deepen scientific developments and increase statistical literacy of youth.
