A business analyst is a professional who is responsible for collecting, analysing and interpreting complex data sets to help companies make informed business decisions.
The main tasks of a business analyst in a company may vary depending on the specific field of activity, the size of the company and its goals. However, the main tasks of a business analyst can be:
- analysing data for decision-making: At the heart of business intelligence is the collection, analysis, and inference from data to provide valuable information that will help the company’s management make effective decisions;
- identifying trends and patterns: A business analyst uses data analytics to identify trends, patterns and correlations that can be useful in understanding market conditions, consumer habits and other aspects of a company’s operations;
- forecasting: Business intelligence uses forecasting models to predict future trends, customer requirements, and other factors affecting the business;
- process optimisation: Data analysis helps to identify the effectiveness and inefficiency of business processes, which allows the company to optimise its operations and increase productivity;
- creation of reports and dashboards: A business analyst is responsible for creating reports, dashboards, and other data visualisation tools for management and other company stakeholders;
- development and implementation of analytical systems: A business analyst can be involved in the development and implementation of analytical systems and tools that help collect, analyse and use data.
- monitoring results and tracking KPIs: A business analyst monitors the company’s key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyses their development over time, providing recommendations for improving results.
As part of the Introduction to Business Analytics course, students of the Economic Cybernetics and Business Analytics study programme (group E11/2 ek) took part in the Basic Tools for Data Analytics webinar on 15 February 2024 to learn about business analytics tools. The speaker was Oleg Forlita, Team Lead Data Analyst at YASNO. The webinar covered the following issues:
- Analytics in everyday life

- Data analytics work cycle (from setting a task to creating dashboards or making business-oriented decisions)
- Analytics tools – Excel/Google Sheets

Attending webinars with practitioners is very useful for future professionals, as it allows students to get a comprehensive understanding of the development of the modern IT industry, choose the direction of their future professional activities, and get acquainted with the requirements of employers to improve their own competencies.
