The profession of business analyst is extremely relevant in today’s labour market and is marked by a stable demand for qualified specialists. This is due to the dynamic development of technology, the growth of data volumes, and the need for business to make sound strategic and tactical decisions.
A business analyst is a specialist who collects, analyses and interprets data in order to provide businesses with sound recommendations for making strategic and tactical decisions. The main goal of a business analyst is to increase the efficiency of business processes and improve the company’s performance.
The main requirements for the profession of business analyst are analytical skills, knowledge of data analysis tools and methods (Excel, SQL, Python, R, etc.), understanding of databases and data processing methods, understanding of business processes and the specifics of the industry in which the business analyst works, communication skills, strategic thinking, etc.
As part of their internship, in order to get acquainted with the practical experience of a business analyst, students of the study programme ‘Economic Cybernetics and Business Analytics’ (4th year) took part in the webinar ‘What does a business analyst’s working day look like? Masterclass on working with requirements’. The speaker was Valeria Kolomiets, Business Analyst at Lizard Soft. Valeria has 5 years of experience in IT and more than 4 years as a business analyst, working with the following domains: insurance, investment, trade, document management systems, mining, and exchanges.

The speaker elaborated on the tasks of a business analyst, the business requirements hierarchy, documenting business requirements, interaction with stakeholders, etc.
Attending webinars with practitioners is an important component of the study of students of the Economic Cybernetics and Business Analytics study programme, as it helps them to gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills and real experience in this area, to get acquainted with current trends and innovations in business analytics, to receive valuable advice and recommendations from experienced professionals and to establish contacts for their future career.
